About the Book The book is divided into three parts dealing with theoretical background, issues and challenges and the strategies of empowerment. Four chapters in the introduction analyse the situation of Indian women both in the present context and in the historical perspective and present the concept, philosophy and indicators of women empowerment. Six chapters in the second part, reveal the social, economical political dimensions of women’s empowerment and the situation of women of vulnerable sections and ethnic minorities. While explaining the strategies for women’s empowerment in the last four chapters, in the third part, the role of education, legal support system and civil society is highlighted besides an elaborate description of government efforts. Hopefully, the book will provide a good reading material to research scholars, social activists and practitioners.
